CRAFTED TO LAST

MORE MUSINGS FROM DEEPEST DORSET

I don’t know about you but it seems to me we live in a throwaway world. Nothing lasts. It drives me mad.

One of the reasons we started Maude & Fox was because we wanted to make something of genuine lasting quality, and nothing pleases me more than when people come up to me and say, “I’ve had this coat 10 years and it’s still good as new.” That, to me, justifies all the hard work, even if it’s not the smartest business model!

CORE PRINCIPLES

From the very start quality was a core principle of Maude & Fox. We set out to make clothes that

a) stylish people would want to wear, and
b) would look as good on year six as on day one.

ECONOMIES OF SCALE

I totally understand why some ‘British’ labels farm out production Bangladesh or Turkey. It’s the only way to make big margins. But margin, while important, is not our priority. We are all about producing small numbers at a very high quality and a fair price. Clothes that are meant to be worn — I use that phrase a lot.

BRITISH THROUGH AND THROUGH

All our tweed is from British mills. It's wonderful and yes, expensive, but it’s worth every penny because so much care goes into it, and because it lasts so much longer than cheap fabrics.

PROPERLY CRAFTED

Equally important is the make. In a forthcoming email I’ll go into more detail on this but I can assure you our brilliant seamstresses take immense pride in cutting and making their work. We also generate all our own patterns. Some of our more quirky detailing is tricky to achieve and my team consistently nails it. You can’t beat handmade clothing.

BELT AND BRACES

The beauty of having your own label is you can be absolutely fastidious. (Or picky, as my husband might say.) I’m a stickler for detail. Every single item is checked prior to dispatch. It’s very rare that anything slips through unnoticed but if it does, we will always make it right.

YOU MAKE IT BETTER

In my experience, Maude & Fox customers are not backwards about coming forwards. You tell it like it is! That’s great, though. It keeps us on our toes and we really appreciate your honesty and also your loyalty.

FAMILY MATTERS

Most important of all, perhaps, we’re a small family business. There’s a lot of pride at stake. Our amazing team at Maude and Fox has become like an extension of our family.

We want you to wear Maude & Fox for years and years so we design garments that will withstand extreme British weather, work hard in the field, look effortlessly chic and bring a lot of joy.

If you ever have any questions re sizing, styling or anything at all (vaguely related to clothing!) please do ask—you can reach me at info@maudeandfox.com
